why not woven?
Some design elements come and go. Others quietly earn their place, year after year, room after room.
For me, woven materials fall firmly into the second category.
Wicker, rattan, sisal and other natural fibres have been part of interiors for centuries, and for good reason. They bring warmth, texture and a sense of ease to a room in a way that’s difficult to replicate with other materials.
They can feel collected without feeling fussy, casual without feeling unfinished, and classic without feeling stuck in the past.
At CPD, these are the elements we return to again and again. Not because they are having a moment, but because they are timeless. They have a way of making a room feel more layered, comfortable and, ultimately, more inviting.

warmth & weave
Even the most beautifully designed room can sometimes feel a little too polished when every surface is hard, smooth and pristine.
This is where woven materials come in.
A wicker basket. A rattan chair. A sisal rug. A cane-front cabinet.
Each one introduces a little warmth and softness without changing the overall direction of the room. They bring natural variation and texture that can make a space feel more relaxed and inviting.
I especially love them alongside harder finishes like stone, metal and millwork. That contrast is what creates balance.
It’s often these quieter layers that make a room feel fully considered.

simple & sophisticated
There is something about natural woven materials that instantly brings warmth to a space.
They have a softness to them, even when the material itself is quite structured. The natural variation, texture and subtle imperfections keep a room from feeling too perfect and give it a sense of ease.
We often use them as a way to bring a little warmth into rooms with more tailored finishes. They create contrast, but in a way that feels effortless rather than deliberate.
It is a small layer, but one that can have a big impact on how a room feels.

timeless & tailored
One of the reasons we love woven materials so much is how easily they adapt.
They can feel equally at home in a traditional space, a coastal cottage or a more contemporary room. They work beautifully with antiques and newer pieces, tailored upholstery and more relaxed furnishings.
And because they are so naturally understated, they can evolve with a home rather than dictating the direction of it.
That’s something we value at CPD. I want the pieces we choose to have a life beyond the moment they were selected. Woven materials have that quality. They are versatile, quietly beautiful and, most importantly, they never feel like they are trying too hard.
So the next time a room feels like it’s missing something, consider the materials that quietly bring warmth, texture and character to a space without demanding attention.
