weekly design inspiration: love it or leave it

As a Canadian designer collaborating with clients from coast to coast, I am endlessly inspired by the evolution of design. Every season introduces new materials, unexpected shapes, and fresh palettes, but the most exceptional interiors are never dictated by trends alone. They are timeless, deeply personal, and intimately attuned to the way you live.

Our approach to luxury interiors is rooted in impeccable craftsmanship, thoughtful layering, and a reverence for spaces that feel effortlessly collected over time. Some trends naturally align with this philosophy, elevating a home without ever feeling fleeting. Others? Not so much!!

Here’s a look at what’s capturing my imagination right now and trends I’ll always gracefully sidestep.

absolutely yes

Texture is the heartbeat of a space. Mixing linen, marble, natural wood, and aged metals brings warmth and authenticity. These tactile layers create a home that feels curated, never contrived.

Incorporating vintage pieces tells a story. A well-worn rug, a time-softened oak chair, or an antique mirror with patina instantly adds soul. Pairing these with tailored, modern lines creates a balance that feels both grounded and fresh.

Lighting is an integral layer of design that shapes the mood, highlights texture, and defines a space. Sculptural wall sconces, hand-blown glass pendants, and bold brass statement fixtures serve as both functional elements and artful focal points. Each piece brings a sense of drama, craftsmanship, and intentionality, transforming everyday rooms into spaces that feel thoughtfully composed and endlessly inspiring.

unmistakably no

I would never lean into one look. A lakeside home doesn’t need to shout “cottage,” and a farmhouse doesn’t need scripted signage. Subtle storytelling through materiality is far more enduring.

Following the “colour of the year” rarely works in a home that’s meant to last. Our focus is on colours that are thoughtful, timeless, and tailored to the space and light.

Pieces that are trending on social media but widely available can dilute a home’s individuality. I champion bespoke, artisanal, or curated items that feel unique and custom.

Trends can feel exciting, but luxury design is about balance. At Candace Plotz Design, we prioritize spaces that are curated, personal, and enduring. By carefully choosing which styles to embrace and which to avoid, we create homes that feel intentional, elevated, and completely tailored to you, the client. The best spaces evolve naturally, reflecting not what’s popular, but what feels personal.
